How to Optimize a website for SEO?
Optimizing a website is essential to rank a website on top of search engine rankings. Creating a strong site architecture and providing clear navigation will help the search engines to index your website easily and quickly.
Google uses more than 200 ranking signals to determine which content should rank on top of search engine results. Google is also paying more attention to user experience. It is a must that your website is Mobile Friendly, no broken links and your website should have a sitemap which will allow Google to crawl through your site to find new and updated pages.
Content Audit:
Content Audit is a very important process while optimizing a website for SEO. Before writing a content the first step is to do keyword research, choosing the right keyword will be the base of any content writing. Always use h1 tag for the first title in your content and the keyword should be used in the first sentence or paragraph. One should not overindulge your content with keywords. Overuse of keywords is a very bad SEO practise it will harm your website ranking because it comes under Black Hat SEO.
Site Speed:
When we talk about optimizing a website, site speed plays a major role in it. There are a lot of tools available on the internet to check your site speed. For my websites, I use two tools one is Google Speed Insights and GTMetrix. Both these tools provide us with exact information on what is causing your website to be slow and how to fix it. For example, GTMetrix provides us with the Images to be compressed and the compressed version of the particular image alongside it in a URL. To increase site speed we need to minify or js and CSS files. Removing unwanted js and CSS files is also important.
Mobile-Friendly:
The website should be mobile-friendly, Google considers this as a major factor to push a website to the top of search engine rankings.
Meta Description and Title Tags:
Meta Description is nothing but an overview of the article on that particular page. It won't help in increasing your Search Engine Rankings but it is necessary to do it because it will give an overview for the user about the content.
Title tags are important because it tells the search engines about your site in the best possible way. Always use the keyword in your title tag.
Image Optimization:
Optimizing your media files is as important as writing your content. Images should be given an ALT attribute without fail. Images should be compressed but the quality should not be lost. Plan and place the image accordingly in a way that it should not disturb the reader.
Internal Linking:
Internal Linking helps Google identify new and updated pages easily. When a visitor reads your article if it is good enough they will be looking for more options, therefore, it is a good practice to Interlink other articles as the related post. It will also bring in more traffic on your website.
